Those who know me know I have a great love for green smoothies! They are an amazing way to start your day and they provide lasting energy well into the afternoon. I think the biggest advantage is knowing you’ve already checked-off a few servings of greens for your day! It’s like when you go to the gym in the morning, and all day you feel so proud that you’ve already accomplished an amazing workout!
I know it may be difficult to give up your berry and banana smoothie- I get it, it is sweet and delicious! But by going green, you are getting a lot more nutrients, less sugar, and it will sustain your energy for a longer period of time! And, green smoothies can taste delicious too! Here is my favourite recipe, jam-packed with vitamins and nutrients, fiber and over 10g of protein.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup packed kale leaves, stems removed
- 1 cup packed spinach
- juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1/2 green apple, cored and diced
- 1/2 cucumber, diced
- 3 tbsp hemp hearts
- 3/4-1 cup coconut water
- 3 ice cubes
- 5 mint leaves
Directions:
Roughly chop up ingredients and add everything to the blender. Blend on high until smooth, transfer to a glass with a straw, and let the energizing begin!
